Finishing up some work and perusing the Internets, which, among other things, holds one of my favorite blogs, The Happy Diet. In writing about her own move toward vegetarianism (something I've often contemplated, but never had the willpower to go through with), Holistic Girl name-checks everyone's favorite patriot, Ben Franklin. I'm loving this quote:

Elephants
Looking up a performer who's on mom's "One Life to Live" (note how it is not MY "One Life to Live" despite the fact that I manage to find myself sitting here every day at 1 p.m. eagerly awaiting my update from Landview - what will Gigi do?!?!) I don't particularly love said performer, but I'm always interested in what new music the network TV thinks I (or my mother) will like.
'Tis one Rachael Yamagata doing a song called "Elephants," which is a great name for anything. Everything is more funny/touching/genius with Elephants. The song is a little bloody and broody and heartbreaking for my current mood, but I'm intrigued by the opening lines:
"If the elephants have past lives
Yet are destined to always remember
It's no wonder how they scream..."
And even as I type those lines I hate how contrived they are, but they do make me think how glad I am that memories fade. How painful it would be to remember with the same feeling of the original experience. The world is better for a little forgettting methinks.

The Good Things
At the library - where I originally went to pick up tax forms but got distracted by all those books! - signing up for a library card* so I can check out Wil Wheaton's book Just a Geek.
Because I love him.
For so many reasons.
Which one day I'll be brave enough to share like he does.
*After a very minor hubbub over my Jersey license. So much better than the six forms of ID one has to provide to get an NYPL card. Yet another reason to love Kansas.

Flatbush
Half watching "The Real World - Brooklyn" and working on my resume (cuz nothing motivates one to be a productive member of society like an episode of "The Real World".) Missing New York. Wanting a tiny dog to name Brooklyn.
